REEFWATCH MARINE CONSERVATION

ReefWatch Marine Conservation is a Not-for-profit Organisation established in 1993, as a Public Charitable Trust under the Societies Registration Act. We are involved in restoration, education and outreach activities. These have included coral reef restoration and monitoring, strengthening marine stranding networks, SCUBA training for scientists, education programs in schools across the country and beach clean-ups.

OUR INITIATIVES AND PROJECTS

KARNATAKA

The Karnataka coastline is a relatively understudied wildlife habitat. Our projects here include a Marine Megafauna Stranding Response, Ghost Net Retrieval and awareness building activities with coastal communities.

GOA

The 105 km of Goa’s coastline is replete with marine life and it is also a hotspot for tourism. Our work here includes providing veterinary care to stranded marine megafauna as well as conducting research and organising awareness building activities.

ANDAMAN ISLANDS

The Andamans are part of India’s island territories, rich with diverse ecosystems including coral reefs, mangroves and tropical rainforests. Our work here includes coral reef restoration, research and awareness building.

GUJARAT

This 1,600 km coastline on the Arabian Sea constitutes a substantial 24% of Indian coastline. Partnering with C-SCAPES, we are currently in the process of establishing a comprehensive Marine Megafauna Stranding Response project across the state.

BLUE India

Blue India is our country’s first underwater imagery competition and aims to raise awareness about our oceans through photography. The competition is currently paused, please watch this space for updates.

VOLUNTEER WITH REEFWATCH

VOLUNTEER WITH REEFWATCH

Volunteering with ReefWatch is very fulfilling, fun and rewarding. By giving your time and talents, you are making a huge difference to the way the ocean is protected in India. We have a small group of passionate people in the core team, and our work is richer for the efforts put in by our volunteers. You do not have to be a marine scientist to help– we welcome people from the fields of law, media, design, film, finance and pretty much any ocean lover with time to spare.

LEARNING RESOURCES

Awareness and education are cornerstones of conservation. We are happy to share posters, lesson plans, databases and manuals that we have created for free download and use. We also curate excursions to the Andaman Islands, Coastal Karnataka and Goa for school children and volunteer groups.
